Medmarc Adds a New Sr. Business Development Specialist to the Business Development & Marketing Team

Medmarc is excited to announce the addition of Caren Backus to its team.

Caren (Braun) Backus brings over twenty-five years of insurance experience to her role at Medmarc with a focus on liability insurance lines. With twenty years at various brokers of all sizes, she is uniquely positioned to help cultivate new relationships and deploy sales and marketing strategies to help optimize Medmarc’s position in the marketplace.

“Caren is a natural fit to represent Medmarc at the many life sciences insurance and medtech events to promote our brand and deliver value to our brokers and insureds,” says John Ajello, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing. “Caren is a terrific addition to our strong team and will build upon the great work we’ve been delivering for our customers.”

Most recently Caren was at AHT Insurance (now The Baldwin Group) for 13 years, where she served as a full-service property & casualty risk management consultant and insurance broker, specializing in D&O, E&O and other management liability lines for the technology and private equity industries. Prior to that Caren opened the Maryland branch office of NASDAQ Insurance Agency, part of the NASDAQ stock market, where she was responsible for selling D&O to listed and pre-IPO companies and all related operations, business development and sales efforts.

Caren was integral in launching two start up regional insurance brokerage offices - venture backed InsureHighTech in Massachusetts and Minet in Chicago – where she led all sales and marketing efforts. In addition, she managed a national Lawyers Professional Liability Insurance program for 6 years at Willis in Boston, MA and began her career in an underwriting capacity at AON in Chicago - her beloved hometown.  

Fun fact, Caren graduated Cum Laude from Texas Christian University (TCU). She currently resides in Reston, VA, one of the many unique areas that make up Northern Virginia. When she is not working, Caren enjoys spending time with her 14-year-old daughter, golfing, practicing yoga and pickleball, specifically as a PPR certified instructor.
